Bergen – in the heart of Fjord Norway.
With its unique location on Norway’s west coast, Bergen – also known as the “gateway to the fjords”– is an important port of call for cruise ships. Every year, the city welcomes some 3.5 million visitors, including half a million cruise passengers.
Bergen is an all-year-round destination, with cruise ships calling every single month of the year. Arriving by sea is the perfect opportunity to experience the city at its most spectacular. This is where you get the best view of its seven surrounding mountains and the charming wooden houses clinging to the hillsides.
Bergen has a clear objective to become one of the most eco-friendly cruise destinations in the world. The port’s future-orientated, international, and eco-friendly vision is in line with the local council’s plans for a city free of fossil fuels by 2030. In order to attract the most environmentally friendly ships, Port of Bergen has initiated the development of an Environmental Port Index – EPI – which will be in force from 2019.
Way-port calls are very important to Bergen, and the city’s location in the heart of Fjord Norway is an excellent starting point. With hotels, restaurants, attractions, and cultural events within walking distance of the quays, visitors are well catered for both before embarkation and after disembarkation. Baggage facilities at the Skolten terminal building will upgraded in 2018.
