During the summer months, ships calling Port of Bergen can experience strong winds, particularly in the afternoon in the area Bonetalbo – Skolten and Festningskaien berths. Over the last years, we see that number of cruise calls increases steadily and the ships are getting bigger.
This, coupled with the fact that there is no permanent tug readiness service in Bergen, has made it necessary to establish measures to ensure that necessary tug service is available. So far we have not had any serious events.
Rather than impose the use of tugs at a certain wind speed, we have established a weather forecast service with detailed weather overview 3 days ahead.
We recommend that tug service is ordered one to two days ahead.
