Bergen Municipality has today decided that cruise passengers on board cruise ships berthing at the Port of Bergen will not be permitted to leave the ship.
-This decision is one of several measures to both help limit city congestion, in order to avoid the spread of the coronavirus, and to prevent the risk of any visitor being infected while visiting Bergen, says Municipal Director Robert Rastad.
Consequently, this means that cruise ships arriving in Bergen can berth and receive supplies, however passengers must remain on board the ship. The Municipality of Bergen has been in dialogue with the Port of Bergen in order to decide how to handle vessel calls that are turnaround calls, such as Hurtigruten and FjordLine. Passengers onboard these ships will still be allowed to depart but must adhere to local regulations implemented in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
The Municipality is currently reviewing whether the decision to prevent passengers from leaving the ship should be handled as a case-by-case decision per ship, or whether this should be dealt with in temporary common regulations
